  Our doctors are skilled in soft tissue surgery on many species, including reptiles. We use Isoflourane gas anesthesia and have ADS 1000 microprocessor-controlled ventilator to improve anesthetic safety. Patients are monitored by EKG, pulse oximetry, CO2 & blood pressure/doppler flow, and thermal support plus I.V. fluids combine to provide the safest anesthetic experience possible. We practice the latest in pain management techniques throughout your pet's surgical procedure and in-hospital recovery as well as the initial period once they return home.

  

• Anesthesia Monitoring

  For maximum safety we use state-of-the-art monitoring on all surgical patients. We have 3 portable vital monitors that allow us to monitor many parameters on multiple patients at the same time. Vital signs monitored include: EKG: to monitor for dangerous, irregular or abnormal heart beats. PULSE RATE: to be sure that heart beats are moving blood through the body and a double-check of EKG rate. BLOOD PRESSURE: One of the most sensitive indicators of anesthetic depth. Automatically checked every 1-3 minutes. SPO2: A measure of oxygen saturation of the red blood cells. Indicates how much oxygen is getting to patients tissues. The kidneys and brain are most sensitive. RESPIRATION RATE: Patients can be ventilated if not breathing adequately on their own. EtCO2 (end tidal CO2) Very sensitive measure of how well a patient is breathing. TEMPERAURE measured by 2 separate probes. Data sent to an integrated thermal control unit to keep patients warmed.

  

• Surgical anesthesia/ ventilator

  The ADS1000 is a microprocessor-controlled anesthetic ventilator which allows us to accurately control the breathing and anesthetic delivery to even the smallest and most difficult patients. We can provide assisted ventilation or complete ventilation if a patient requires.

  

• Rat Snake Surgery

  This yellow rat snake required surgery to remove a wooden egg she ingested while inside a henhouse. Surgery went very well and after her 6-week recovery period, she was released back into her environment. Some reinforcement to the henhouse was made to prevent any future visits!
